Born in Turkey in 1896, Victoria Hazan arrived in New York in 1920. As a child in Turkey Victoria had sung Turkish and Ladino and learn to play the oud. In New York she became a member of the "United Sisterhood Benevolent Society" for whom she would often perform. She had often been asked to record her repertoire, but refused until the 1940s. Her recordings in Ladino, Turkish and Greek, were very popular in the Sephardic communities throughtout the world and have long been out of print.
