Nechama Lifshitz was born in 1927 in Kovno where her father was the principal at the Tarbut school. It was only after the death of Stalin in 1953 that the use of Yiddish became possible again, and Nechama abandoned a promising career in opera to devoteherself to Yiddish song. In 1960 she made Aliya to Israel, and was received with great enthusiasm. The press crowned her "Queen of the Yiddish Song" and thousands attended her concerts. Two highly successful albums were recorded for CBS Records Israel and an album was release in the US .This CD consists of material from a non-professional recording in 1964 at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow. Nechama sent this recording to the composer, Joachim Stutschewsky, since it included four of his children's songs. Years later, this recording was discovered in the Stutschewsky Archives at the Felicja Blumental Music Center and Library in Tel-Avi. Since this is not a studio recording, there is background noise, yet the magnificent voice of this great artist shines through. In every sense, this is a historic recording. Booklet written in English and Russian.
